Faculty Advisor for Diversity and Inclusive Excellence
We are a campus in pursuit of inclusive excellence. In its simplest form the goal of inclusive excellence is to create a campus climate where all students, faculty and staff can thrive, where the race/ethnicity/nationality, gender identity and expression, sexuality, class, religion and/or ability composition of your peers does not dictate your belonging or your chances of success.
The University of Massachusetts aims to institutionalize a climate of inclusivity that promotes a robust exchange of ideas, cross-racial and cross-cultural interaction and engagement, and the opportunity for all to participate. We do this through multiple initiatives and programs that promote inclusive excellence, including those focused on race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, ability, age, national origin, and ethnicity, and also those based on hobbies, interests, geographical locations, personal style, and life experiences. I oversee the implementation of the Diversity Strategic Plan, assess outcomes of the implementation, and make recommendations to Chancellor Subbaswamy for future action. In addition, I am responsible for working with various groups such as the Faculty Senate Status of Diversity Council and the Chancellor’s Diversity Advisory Committee, as well as members of the senior administration, staff, faculty and students, to develop and implement appropriate academic initiatives to advance the campus’s diversity goals.
