Welcome to the 2011-12 Academic Year!
-
September 1, 2011
Dear Campus Community,
It is my pleasure to extend a special "Welcome!" to the Class of 2015. Continuing our trend of excellence, our newest class is the largest-ever—and the most academically accomplished first-year class in the history of the University.
As we settle in for the new academic year, you will notice that UMass Amherst has been a very busy place this summer. The campus has worked on nearly 100 major and minor construction, renovation and repair projects over the past few months. Additionally, faculty and staff have been busy planning for the first Fall New Student Orientation, an incredible First Week 2011 full of activities, the inaugural year of the Deans' Theme, and so much more. It promises to be a productive and exciting academic year.
I hope to see you at the Welcome UMass Amherst Barbecue, Monday, September 5 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on the Fine Arts Center Plaza. Join colleagues and students as the campus attempts to break the record for the World's Largest Stir Fry.
I look forward to seeing you on campus in the coming days.
Robert C. Holub Chancellor
