are actively involved in teaching, research and service at the
University of Massachusetts Amherst. They also contribute to
the field of higher education outside the University through
publications, presentations, service on educational
committees, and memberships in professional organizations.
Each of these activities assists in making visible the work of
the CFT, both within and outside the University.

Dr. Matt Ouellett is Director of the Center for Teaching, University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he works closely with graduate students, faculty, department chairs, and deans across the disciplines on teacher development and assessment issues in the diverse classroom. He is also the President of the Professional and Organizational Development Network (POD) in Higher Education (2006-2009) and is past president of the New England Faculty Development Consortium (NEFDC). He serves as a summer lecturer on social work at the Smith College School of Social Work, teaching graduate courses on the implications of racism on clinical social work practices in the United States, and as a lecturer at the University of Massachusetts Amherst School of Education, where he regularly teaches EDUC 595K: Introduction to College Teaching. In addition, he presents faculty development workshops related to diversity issues both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Ouellett’s research interests and publications focus on multicultural organization development in education settings and social justice and equity issues for teachers. He is the editor of the volume Teaching Inclusively: Resources for Course, Department and Institutional Change in Higher Education (2005). Most recently, Dr. Ouellett has been the recipient of research support from the Ford Foundation, Annie E. Casey Foundation, and the Richard Nathan Trusts through the Institute for Gay and Lesbian Studies, Amherst, Massachusetts.

Mei-Yau Shih is Associate Director at the Center for Teaching, University of Massachusetts Amherst. She is responsible for identifying, developing, and overseeing campus-wide teaching technology services through the Center for Teaching. She works with faculty, from one-on-one consultation to workshops, for pedagogical innovation and teaching technology integration. She directs the TEACHnology® Fellowship Program to support senior faculty apply the capacities of technology to teaching and learning. She also sits on campus and system advisory and governance councils that set practices and policies for effective use of instructional technology.

Program Coordinator/
Business Manager Diane Burns is responsible for the
administration of the Center's budget. In addition to
handling all financial affairs, she coordinates the
management of all Center programs and grants.
