Grants for Professional Development in Teaching (PMYR)
Dear Colleagues who completed
PMYR in 2009-2010,
e invite and
encourage you to apply to a new program that supports grants
for teaching enhancement as part of the Periodic Multi-Year
Review (PMYR) process for tenured faculty.
As a result of the PMYR
agreement, the Amherst campus allocated funds to the Center
for Teaching (CFT), to be used for a development program. In
response, CFT coordinates a yearly program for faculty
involved in the PMYR process called the Grants for
Professional Development in Teaching. This program was
designed in consultation with senior faculty, chairs, deans,
and representatives of the Massachusetts Society of Professors
(MSP).
Briefly, the Grants for
Professional Development in Teaching program offers
professional development incentives for teaching improvements
and provides individual consultation to set project goals and
to assess outcomes. Proposals are due in the Center for Teaching by
November 2, 2009.
We believe that the Grants
for Professional Development in Teaching program can
provide meaningful support for faculty members' professional
development as teachers. We welcome a wide range of proposals
for new initiatives in teaching, changes in the direction of
your teaching, or overall improvements in your effectiveness
as a teacher.
With best wishes,
Mei-Yau Shih
Associate Director
Center for Teaching
