Faculty Associate Program

he Faculty Associate Program was instituted to enrich the activities offered by the Center and to offer additional expertise from within the faculty community to CFT clients.

Biographical Sketches of Faculty Associates

Randall W. Phillis - 2005-2006

Randall Phillis is a professor in the Biology Department.  He is serving as a consultant to the CFT on junior faculty development and undergraduate education.

Laura Doyle - 2002-2003

Laura Doyle is a professor in the English Department, and she facilitated the Faculty Book Club.

Richard Halgin - 2002-2003

Richard Halgin is a professor in the Psychology Department, and he worked with the CFT on teaching and learning issues related to teaching large classes.

Richard Rogers - 2002-2003

Richard Rogers is a professor in the Department of Resource Economics as well as Faculty Advisor to the Provost for Undergraduate Education. He worked with Mei-Yau Shih on teaching technologies.

Susan Cocalis - 2001-2002

Susan Cocalis is a professor in the Department of Germanic Languages & Literatures, and worked with the Hewlett Fellows Program.

Robert Hallock - 2001-2002

Robert Hallock is a professor in the Physics Department, and offered advice and consultation on the PMYR Incentive Grants for Teaching Program.

Barbara Love - 2001-2002

Barbara Love is a professor in the Department of Student Development and Pupil Personnel Services, and she worked with the TLDC Fellows Program.

Peter Elbow - 1991-1993

Peter Elbow is a professor in the English Department.  He served as a consultant to the CFT and facilitated a series of four “Teachers as Writers” workshops which allowed faculty to obtain peer support in working on their own writing projects, and helped them learn more about the use of writing to foster student learning in the classrooms. 

Karen List - 1993-94, 1998-99

Karen List is a professor in the University’s Journalism department.  In her capacity as Faculty Associate to the CFT in 1993-94, she assisted with the Lilly Teaching Fellows seminar, offering workshops on small group discussions; collaborated with the Director in the design of an assessment of the Lilly Program; and acted as a general consultant to the CFT throughout the year. In 1998-99 she served as a consultant to the CFT, coordinating a Looking Forward Together Again:  Shaping the Future of Teaching conference in January 1999 and a successful proposal for admission to the Carnegie Teaching Academy Campus Program, sponsored by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Association of Higher Education.

Alex Dechamps - 1995-96, 1996-97

Alex Dechamps is a professor in the Women’s Studies department.  She served as consultant to the “Teaching and Learning in the Diverse Classroom” program, assisting in planning, coordinating, and acting as co-facilitator for the year-long project.

Albey Reiner - 1995-1996

Albey Reiner is a professor in the Microbiology Department.  He assisted with the Lilly Teaching Fellows seminar, offering sessions on teaching large classes well, and acting as a general consultant to the CFT throughout the academic year.

Julius Lester - 1996-1997

Julius Lester is a professor in Judaic and Near Eastern Studies.  He conducted two conversations on teaching, and learning in a changing society in which he shared with faculty his wisdom and experience gained from twenty-five years in the classroom.

David Stemple - 1997-1998

David Stemple is a professor of Computer Science.  He served as a consultant to the CFT sharing his insights and expertise on instructional technologies.

Ximena Zuniga - 1998-1999

Ximena is a professor of Student Development and Pupil Personnel Services.  She served as a consultant to the “Teaching and Learning in the Diverse Classroom” program, assisting in planning, coordinating, and acting as co-facilitator for the yearlong project.
