he Center for Teaching (CFT) grew out of
a desire among faculty and administrators to provide support
for teaching and learning at the University of Massachusetts
Amherst. It evolved under the guidance of the Office of the
Provost from the Lilly Teaching Fellows Program first hosted
on campus in 1986, and was formally established in 1989. We
report to the Provost's Office and are advised by the Faculty
Senate Undergraduate Education Council.
