Reducing the Risk of Non-Point Source
Pollution from Equine Facilities through Demonstrations and Education
Opportunities
The project will provide education programs to the public with horses and to commercial equine stables and riding facilities. The goal of the project is to reduce the risk of nonpoint source pollution from equine facilities through adoption of best nutrient management practices.
Educational programs include:
MassAggie Seminars: These workshops provide information on different aspects of Best Management Practices (BMPs) and include manure and nutrient management, mud management, pasture and grazing management, weeds and poisonous plants in horse pastures, and hay quality. The workshops are held in different locations in Massachusetts.
Onsite Educational Programs: Educational programs and demonstrations provide excellent opportunities for horse owners and industry to learn more about manure management and composting.
Factsheets: After
an extensive review of existing materials several factsheets generated relating
to many aspects of Best Management Practices to reduce the risk of nonpoint source pollution. The
factsheets can be viewed in the Publication section of this web site.
