Paul S. Katz

Professor

I am interested in understanding how neural circuits produce behavior and how those circuits evolved. I use invertebrates, specifically nudibranch molluscs because they have large individually identifiable neurons.

Current Research

We are collaborating with researchers at several other universities to apply high throughput connectomics techniques to understand nudibranch brains and behavior. We utilize machine learning to analyze behavior. We are doing single neuron transcriptomics combined with Hybridization Chain Reaction to map gene expression onto the brain.
