Alumni
Career Services Update
Alumni
are eligible to use our credentials
service for five years after graduation and our on-line resume referral service,
eRecruiting. For alumni who need job search and
networking advice, we offer the following information, resources, and
web sites to assist with your career development needs.
The online Alumni Directory is a service provided by the UMass AmherstAlumni Association to encourage communication among alumni for personal and professional networking purposes. We recommend you register for the directory and use its search capabilities to network with alumni who might be helpful in your career search. Remember, these alumni have not necessarily indicated a willingness to assist in this capacity, so tread carefully. Never ask an alumna/us for a job, but do consider them as an information resource.
Take advantage of the many various networking opportunities offered by your regional UMass Amherst alumni club. For a complete listing of alumni clubs, visit the Alumni Association’s website at UMassAlumni.com .
For MA-based Alumni
Career
assistance is available at no cost (except for computer workshops) at the
various One-Stop Career Centers around the state.Services vary. For a listing of current centers, go to www.detma.org
For
laid off, downsized, or unemployed alumni/ae, we highly
recommend attending weekly career networking meetings with an organization
called WIND.Meeting locations include Westboro, Wilmington
and Foxboro. These evening meetings are facilitated by a skilled outplacement
consultant and are a great resource for company contacts. The meeting fee
is nominal.For further information,
contact frednothnagel@yahoo.comfor WIND North and West (Westboro and Wilmington)
and Larry Elle at lell@ix.netcom.com
for WIND South (Foxboro). Or Larry Linden at llinden@rlstevens.com
For
those living in the Boston-area, reasonable-priced career services are available
at the Jewish Vocational Service, call 617-451-8147
for an appointment.Their fees are
quite reasonable compared with private consultants in the Boston area.
We
also recommend checking the back of the 2002 edition of the book What
Color Is Your Parachute by Richard Bolles for a list of career counselors
by state or check the NCDA web site www.ncda.org
under Consumers and Job Seekers.
For Outside-MA Alums
Check
with local colleges and community colleges, many of whom will have career
services available to the public for a reasonable fee.
Same
as above, check the back of the book What
Color is Your Parachute by Richard Bolles for a list of career counselors
listed by state.
