Men's World Cup Soccer Spring 1998

Children of Argentina

Championship Game Summary
Children of Argentina 2, Lanaxes 1

Sixteen teams participated in the grueling World Cup Soccer Tournament. When the tournament came to an end The Children of Argentina (CA) prevailed 2-1 over Lanaxes. CA advanced to the second round of the tournament by winning two matches and drawing one while Lanaxes won all three of their group games. Both teams survived semi-final thrillers to advance to the championship.

In the final, neither team scored in the first half, although both had many scoring opportunities. Finally, in the 7th minute, Alex Ruiz (CA) sent a through ball to Cesar Vargas who buried a left footed blast into the net. Six minutes later Ruiz found the net himself. Lanaxes then opened up their attack and scored in the 16th minute as Demo Dominique collected a ball on the right flank from Kwame Bryan and blasted a low drive into the net. This, however, would be the last opportunity for Lanaxes as CA tightened up their defense and secured the 2-1 victory.
