Men's World Cup Soccer Spring 1997

Bohemian FC

Championship Game Summary
Bohemian F. C. 2, Femi's Grasshoppers 0

Eighteen teams participated in the grueling World Cup Soccer tournament. When it was all done and over, last year's champs, Loaded won again under a new name but same face as Bohemian F. C. Bohemians F. C. went undefeated during pool play and advanced to the final winning by forfeit over Victory. Their counterpart in the final, Femi's Grasshoppers, also went undefeated in pool play and beat a tough United F. C. 4-3 in a rain-soaked overtime thriller.

In the final, neither team scored in the first half, although Bohemians F. C., usually strong defensively, allowed Femi's Grasshoppers several good opportunities to score, but the Grasshoppers shot wide or over the goal. Bohemians F. C. scored its two goals in the second half on a chest ball by Derek Shea and a scramble-in-front knock-in by Scott Chadwick. Still, the Grasshoppers had good chances on net but it was just not to be. Bohemians F. C. won 2-0 and earned a well deserved World Cup "repeat".
