Eight teams entered the 1993 World Cup Soccer Weekend
Tournament. In Pool A, The Gods needed overtime to defeat French Fries, 3-
2, easily handled Destruction, 4-1, and gave Dark Horse their only loss, 1-0,
to emerge undefeated. Perennial soccer power, Victory, defeated a strong
Kolovara squad, 4-1, and cruised by Norfolk Enchance, 7-1 and Berkshire
Bolts, 8-1 to win Pool B.
The stage was set for the championship tournament on Sunday. Jason
Barrow's overtime goal for the Gods defeated a tenacious Kolovara team, 2-1.
In the other semi-final, Victory played gallantly under difficult conditions,
with only six players. Dark Horse executed perfectly, Jon lanelli scored
twice, Alec Bell and Mike Faber added lone goals to seal the upset, 4-1, setting up the chance to avenge their only loss. The final featured tough
goalkeeping and near misses. Alex Hurd scored to end the first half for Dark
Horse. It was the only score of the game. The Gods could not score against
a determined Dark Horse squad, final score 1-0.
