Championship Game Summary
Limp Richards & Softballs 11, Posadamizers 9

Limp Richards and Softballs continued their dominance by defeating the Posadamizers to claim their 5th weekend softball title in six years. The tournament was rife with forfeits. To be sure, Posadamizers knocked off AE Pi 5-2 in their first game, lost to Mass Debaters 11-5 to end up in the loser’s bracket, won-by-forfeit the next two games & knocked off Mass Debaters 4-2 with sweet revenge to roll back to the final. Amid two wins-by-forfeit, Limp Richards played only one game to reach the final, a 9-2 romp over Mass Debaters. Trust me. These teams really get to know each other.

In the championship (would we need an if-necessary game?), Limp Richards jumped to a 5-0 lead after two innings, but Posadamizers stormed back in their half of the 2nd inning with eight runs. Seven straight Posadamizers players scored runs. In the inning, untimely walks from Limp Richards’ Robert Basile helped the unraveling. In the top of the 4th, the four through seven hitters–Kyle Johnson, Basile, James McMahon & Tom Tabb– provided the offensive power to get back three runs to tie the game. However, in the bottom of the 5th, Andy Weinstein scored the winning run on a clutch hit by Jay Montes. In the second & deciding game, Posadamizers continued their momentum to score first for a 1-0 lead. For Limp Richards in the bottom of the 1st, lead-off hitter Pat Orr & Bryce White singled. A throwing error after a single by Basile plated two runs. Limps held Posadamizers scoreless in the 2nd and went on to score four more runs in their turn at bat.

In the 4th inning, Limp Richards padded their lead with a seemingly demoralizing five-run attack. Catcher Dan O’Shea led off with a hit, followed by a four-hit barrage from Orr, White, centerfielder Chris Vercollone & Johnson. An 11-1 lead into the final inning is safe, right? No. Posadamizers came out swinging, and the meat of their order did not disappoint. Posadamizers put eight runs on the board before Jason Montes, game one’s hero, came to the plate. Batting around in the inning, Montes had earlier popped out to third. Unfortunately, the clock struck midnight for the cinderella Posadamizers. Montes grounded out to shortstop/captain Richard Markiewicz to secure the nailbiter 11-9 win for Limp Richards. Pat Orr finished 3-3 with a triple and four RBI. Basile pitched all games for Limp Richards.
