Co-Rec Wallyball Spring 1996

Championship Summary
Sideout defeated Friends of T 11-15, 15-6, 15-13

Wallyball, off-the-wall volleyball, made its inaugural appearance on campus. Two squash courts were modified for use as wallyball courts. Perennial volleyball powerhouse, Sideout was undefeated in league play and defeated a strong Fab 5 team 15-8, 15-13 in the semi-finals. Friends of T won-by-forfeit over Sigma Tau Gamma to gain a chance to avenge their regular season loss to Sideout.

Friends of T jumped out to an early and substantial 9-1 lead. Behind Matt Anavy’s excellent sets and service, Sideout roared back to 11-13. Friends toughed it out and won 15-11.

Anavy continued his inspired play in game 2 and combined with Todd Quellette’s great sets to down Friends of T 15-6.

Both team stepped up in game 3 and neither let the other get too far ahead. Michelle Nevil and Chris Cummings each kept their respective teams afloat. Nevil’s blistering serve gave Sideout a 13-10 lead. After several side outs, Chris Cummings netted his service to put the ball back in Michelle Nevil’s capable hands. She would not be denied and served Sideout to the win, 15-13, and the first Wallyball Championship. Yet another jewel to add to their Men’s and Co-Rec Volleyball crowns.
