Championship Match Summary
Redeem Team defeats Divide and Conquer 2-0

The men’s final featured two highly competitive teams – the undergraduate Redeem Team the versus the grads Divide and Conquer. Both teams began with strong serving that would surely leave bruises on mere mortals. Divide and Conquer lead with the first five points, but Greg Lee brought his team back with his serves to make game one 12-5. After a few side-outs, Redeem Team’s Saeng Syvilay and Onye Duru won back the serve with an amazing block. Teammate Gordon Hoang ended the first game on a jump serve, 15-8.

Divide and Conquer seemed to lose a little intensity in the second game after that disappointing loss, as Redeem Team jumped to an early lead. With the score at 11-5, Divide and Conquer began to win some rallies and points. Using a side-out to their advantage, Kedar Bellare brought his team back to 11-8, and Stefan Christov’s solid play helped to make game two a nailbiter at 14-11. Unfortunately, Divide and Conquer just couldn’t finish. Hoang pounded out another clinching jump serve and Redeem Team bested Divide and Conquer 15-11 in game two for the championship.
