Championship Game Summary
Soulja Boyz 2, Shottas 1

The men’s volleyball final pitted two experienced teams–Soulja Boyz, undefeated during league play, against last year’s champ and perennial playoff powerhouse  Shottas, who was also perfect during the regular season. The first game of the championship began slowly with numerous service errors by both teams.  Soulja Boyz played down a man, with only five men on the court, just as they had all semester. Thanks to the nasty serve of Sean Clifford, Soulja Boyz jumped to an early lead, but Arnold But returned the favor with an impressive serving bout that tied the first game at 10. Key blocks by Gerald Mohan and Ben Otto brought the score to game point and Mohan followed with a spike on the very next play to end the game at 15-12. That was one of eleven kills Mohan threw down, the most of any player on either team. Otto had five spikes of his own for Soulja  Boyz. Onye Duru tallied eight kills while his Shottas teammate Felix Okonkwo had seven.

Shottas was disappointed with its game one loss and came out strong in game two. They lead 8-1 when Soulja Boyz called a timeout to stop the bleeding. Strong all-around play by Matthew Eng and Gordon Hoang helped Shottas dominate the second game 15-3.

Game three was a nail-biter with the score tied at four, six and seven.  Shottas went on a roll and led 11-7 when Soulja Boyz called another timeout. It was a successful one that allowed them to go on a 5-1 run to tie the game at twelve. The score remained close with more ties at sixteen and nineteen. Otto had a dominating spike to send the game to match point. Clifford’s ace ended the game and the match 21-19 crowning Soulja Boyz champion.
