Championship Summary
Shottas 2, VSA 1

Shottas was stellar during the regular season at 5-0, while VSA hovered around .500. When the teams met during the regular season, Shottas won 15-8, 15-8. Shottas crushed their first playoff opponent Overhead & got by A Town’s Finest in three games. VSA narrowly escaped with a win in their playoff matches versus Rudy & BCWR. In the first game of the championship, VSA began with the service and short-handed with five players. It didn’t take Shottas long to jump to an early 10-4 lead on the strength of numerous blocks at the net and kills from Onyemaechi Duru. Shottas had the height advantage at the net. VSA hurt themselves with costly unforced errors. Reminiscent of their regular season meeting, Shottas coasted to a 15-7 win in game one.

The second game, however, was a much different story. VSA began with the lead, this time due to some big-time hitting errors by Shottas and stellar defensive work from Nguyen Vu and Thai Khuong. The score was quickly equalized at 7-7, as no team was able to capitalize with service. VSA’s Quang Nguyen served to push their lead to 12-8. Shottas again came back to tie the game at 12-12 behind Cornelius Toabazuing’s service, but that would be about the extent of the Shottas scoring. Too many hitting errors by Shottas and good scrambling defense by the undermanned VSA team decided the second game.

VSA evened the match by nipping Shottas 15-13 to set up the much-anticipated rally-scoring 3rd game of the match. Shottas jumped out early with lead and really never looked back. In the end, Shottas height advantage and strength at the net led them to victory. They had numerous kills and blocks to outgun VSA. Shottas easily took game three 20-8 and captured the men’s final in dominant style.
