Sigma Alpha Mu defeated Mexican Staring Frogs 13-15, 15-6, 15-11
In game one, the Mexican Staring Frog took a 7-4 lead by playing a well-rounded game. The Sigma Alpha Mu offense finally jelled when Jon Pappalardi began his second turn at serve. SAM took a 10-8 lead with Pappalardi serving, Jason Reesey setting and Jason Gordon hitting. Strong play from the Frog’s Scott Nutt and Jeff Youngblood gave the Frogs a 14-13 lead. Gene Kim served the last point and gave the Frogs a game one win.
SAM came out firing in the second game. Their game plan was simple: get the ball to Gordon! After being down 4-1, the frog’s Chris Stafford and Adam Zerda brought their team back to a 5-5 tie. A key block by SAM’S Papalardi and strong team play had SAM surge ahead 11-6. SAM went on to win game two 15-6. Similar to game two, SAM came out quick in game three with a 7-2 lead using Jeremy Rosenthal’s service. The Frog rallied to tie the game 11-11, but ran out of steam to lose 15-11. Sigma Alpha Mu captured their second championship 13-15, 15-6, 15-11.
