Co-Rec Volleyball Fall 1997

Championship Summary
Sideout defeated Psychos 15-10, 15-12

The Co-rec final featured last year’s champs, Sideout, versus Psychos. Psychos lost their first game of the season but rebounded with six consecutive victories to advance to the championship. Sideout was also stellar during the season at 7-1 overall.

Game one of the final began evenly paced until Sideout’s Stacy Grillo put together several well-placed serves to give Sideout an 8-5 lead. Psychos battled back to even the score at nine. Then Sideout’s Tuan Tran served three winners for a 12-9 Sideout advantage. Teammate Geoffrey Harm finished the game by serving Out three winners for a 15-10 score.

Sideout jumped to an early lead in game two behind Grillo’s serving and Heather Swimm’s setting. Psychos rebounded, thanks in part to Urip Purwono’s service winners. Liane Patsuk added service points and Psychos had their first lead of the game, 12-9. But a victory was not to be; recharged Sideout dominated the rest of the game behind Melissa Cohen’s serves and co-captain Mike Chase’s offensive feats. Sideout won the second game 15-12 and another Co-rec championship.
