Championship Game Summary
Pup 'n Suds 13, Love Handles 6

The ultimate frisbee championship featured Love Handles versus Pup ‘n Suds. The teams previously met during pool play, with Love Handles edging Pup ‘n Suds 10-9. Would the championship yield a different result? The game started with Pup ‘n Suds throwing off to Love Handles.  Handles made their way down the field, but a big defensive play by Jeff Kelly gave Suds disc possession. Suds wasted no time getting the disc to Ryan Holmes to take a 1-0 lead. Pup ‘n Suds had an unsolvable defense until Silas Ray-Burns finally broke through at the 13-minute mark for the Love Handles’ first score. Possession went back and forth until Kelly scored just before the end of the half for a Suds 6-4 lead. Early in the second half, Matt Popelka was fouled by a Love Handles defender. Seconds later, Holmes threw a bomb downfield to a wide open Kelly to stretch the lead to 8-4. Two minutes later, with the help of a Peter Kearns turnover, captain Steph Wong found Tim McSweeney in the end zone for the 10-4 lead. On the ensuing Love Handles possession, Kearns redeemed himself with a nifty toe-tapping grab to cut the lead in half at 10-5. With five minutes to play in regulation, Holmes threw another bomb to Kelly to ice the game. The final five minutes saw another score by Love Handles’ Kearns and Pups ‘n Suds’ Kelly. Pup ’n Suds captured the ultimate championship with the 13-6 win.
