Championship Game Summary
Muff Divers 3, Ken Keniff 2

The men’s softball championship was a pitching and defensive gem. Ken Keniff lost only one game in league play. Their opponent, Muff Divers, entered the big dance unblemished in league play at 4-0. In the top of the 1st, Ken Keniff went three up, three down in just three pitches. For Muff Divers in their half of the 1st, a leadoff single by Andy Weinstein was all their offense. Ken Keniff stranded runners on first and third in the 2nd inning. Muff Divers’ Dan Jette led off the bottom of the 2nd with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Josh Levine.

In the top of the 3rd, Ken Keniff again went 1-2-3. Bardia Razzaghi shot a double into the left center gap to get things started for Muff Divers in the bottom of the 3rd. After Adam Rubin reached on an error, Eric Frost hit a bomb over the leftfielder’s head to score both Razzaghi and Rubin. Muff Divers held the 3-0 lead into the 4th inning.

Ken’s Kevin Lane led off the 4th with a bunt single. The next three batters all singled, including Edward Sisk’s RBI, which brought home Lane. After a line out to the shortstop, Greg Alexandru hit a sacrifice fly to bring in another run for Ken Keniff. The next batter flied out to the short fielder to end the inning at 3-2. Muff Divers countered by putting runners on the corners with one out, but stellar defense by Ken Keniff kept runs off the board. With their backs to the wall, Ken Keniff pressed hard for a 5th inning rally. After a pop out to second base, Patrick Morris laid down a nice bunt but stumbled out of the box and was retired 1-3. The game came down to the Ken Keniff’s leadoff hitter, Andrew Bull. Bull grounded the ball hard, but unfortunately right at the shortstop who threw Bull out at first. Despite a late-game rally by Ken Keniff, it was not enough to overcome the early offense from Muff Divers who held on for the 3-2 win.
