Championship Game Summary
NIYF 3, The Bruisers 0

The Bruisers and NIYF once again squared off in the co-rec championship. A year ago, NIYF bested The Bruisers 7-4. Would it be sweet revenge this year for The Bruisers? Moreover, these teams played in the same league. During their only match-up of the season, NIYF nipped The Bruisers 4-3. This year’s final turned out to be about defense with NIYF topping The Bruisers 3-0. The game was scoreless until the top of the 5th. Lawrence Fridovich got on base and was knocked home by Michael Caggiano.  The Bruisers hunkered down and held NIYF to one run. The 6th inning was much like most of the game as both teams went three and out. In the top of the 7th, Susan King and Caggiano were on base, but The Bruisers shut down the NIYF with solid defense. Matt Liuzzo started The Bruisers off in the bottom of the 7th with a base hit. The next batter, Kelly Baglioni, hit a solid shot off the glove of Lindsay Higgins, but James DeStefano was there to catch the ball and turn a double play, thus taking the bite out of The Bruisers attack. NIYF still led 1-0. In the 8th with a runner on second, the skies opened up with heavy rains, thunder & lightening, prompting a suspension of play. Thirty minutes later when the game resumed, it was all NIYF. Hits by Fridovich, Jon Baum, Brittany Hutton & Lindsay Boffoli brought in two more runs to give NIYF the 3-0 lead. The Bruisers tried to get back in the game, but the NIYF defense stopped them cold. NIYF prevailed in the shutout and captured a second consecutive championship.
