Championship Game Summary
NIYF 7, The Bruisers 4

NIYF jumped to a 5-0 lead over the first two innings and those runs proved to be the difference as NIYF hung on for the 7-4 victory in the co-rec softball championship over the The Bruisers. Jon Baum got things started in the top of the 1st with a double and scored on a single by Lawrence Fridovich one batter later. Fridovich later came around to score on a single by Mike Caggiano. NIYF kept things going in the 2nd with a double by Jon Warne, who then scored on a single by James DeStefano. A single later in the inning by Alexis Rauch scored DeStefano, and she also scored on a ball hit by Fridovich deep to centerfield. Things were quiet until the 7th as both teams displayed solid defense. NIYF added two more in the top of the 7th with Baum’s second double and another RBI single from Fridovich. The Bruisers made the game interesting in the bottom half of the frame with four runs of their own. Andrew Couto reached second on an error to start things off. Dan Ryan pushed him to third with a single and Mike Liuzzo knocked in Couto with a single of his own. Lauren Torres reached on another error and Matt Liuzzo ripped a triple to knock in both Liuzzo and Torres. However, that’s all the runs The Bruisers managed to push across as both teams played solid in the last 3 frames. NIYF allowed only two more baserunners to capture the title. Baum and Rauch played solid defense for NIYF and Torres played solid in the field in the loss.
