Championship Game Summary
Ball Busters 14, The Inmates 4
Thirteen teams qualified for the Co-rec Softball Playoffs. The Inmates
eliminated The Road Runners, 3-2, and also squeaked by the defending
champions, Undies Worn Thrice, 5-4, to gain a berth in the finals. The high
powered Ball Busters offense muscled through Simply The Best, 17-3, and
Hogwild, 11-2. The two finalists had previously met in league play and the
Ball Busters had prevailed 14-7.
In the championship final, The Inmates had a 3-0 lead after 3 1/2 innings.
Jon Freve's two run scoring triple was the key hit. Heather Lehman and
Keith Schumann scored for Ball Busters in their half of the fourth. The next
3 1/2 innings were scoreless. Ball Busters took the lead on Chris San Juan's
bases clearing triple in the bottom of the 8th inning.
Strong defensive play
by Heather Lehman, Danielle Serronico, and Andrea Tattoli continued to
hold The Inmates scoreless. The wheels fell off for The Inmates in the
bottom of the 9th as the Ball Busters batted around and scored 9 runs. The
Inmates plated Dan Praport in the top half of the 10th while Heather
Lehman made another clutch grab in left field to end the game and capture
the title, 14-4.
