Championship Game Summary
Pi Happa Alpha A 4, Homebrews 3
Pi Kappa Alpha A slipped and
slid past The Homebrews to
win the Men's Softball Playoffs, 4-3 in six innings. Pike A
rolled over the competition
with wins over Last Chance
(17-3), Crackphillers (5-1),
Diamond Runners (7-0), and
Beer Bellies (15-1). The Homebrews
got by Alpha Chi Rho
(12-6), Sigma Phi Epsilon
13-9), Primetime (7-5), and
Proia's Mom (8-7 O.T.) to
reach the championship final.
Pike A quickly broke out on
top when centerfielder Dennis
Sullivan knocked in Scott
Coloney. Homebrews' pitcher,
Brian Prince, knuckled down
and got out of the inning.
Pitching and defense took
over and denied any scoring
until the top of the 4th.
Homebrews' Sean Deardorff
walked. Consecutive hits by
John Kiocek, John Mallin and
Christopher Foley scored two
runs. Mallin scored the 3rd
run of the inning on Steve
Nicalek's sacrifice fly.
Pike A
answered right back. Jason
Hartelius smacked one past
Klocek's glove in right center
scoring Eric Korins and Jamie
Mucha. Bad footing probably
prevented Hartelius from
scoring the tiebreaking run.
In the fifth inning both
teams went down 1-2-3. Jeff
Pelland singled but was left
stranded as Pike pitcher Neal
Crespi got the next two batters
to pop out. With two outs,
Will Glennon and Eric Korins
singled. Pike had runners on
first and third. Jamie Mucha's
Texas leaguer scored the
winning run.
