Championship Game Summary
Hang 10 2, Spikes 0
The 1993 Intramurals Women's Soccer Championship game between
Hang 10 and Spike proved to be an interesting battle. Spike, who was one
woman short for the first half managed to keep Hang 10 scoreless despite the
fact that Hang 10, who had three subs throughout, took twice the number of
shots on goal. Spike did field a full team for the second half of the game but
Hang 10 continued to dominate shooting 18 times.
Spike answered back with
11 shots on goal. Hang 10 managed the only two corner kicks of the game in
the second half.
There was a hand ball just outside Spikes' goal box but Hang 10 could
not penetrate Spikes' pressing defense to capitalize. Down at the other end of
the field Hang 10's goalkeeper made an incredible diving save to crush the
beginnings of what looked like a Spike rally.
Things definitely started to
perk up during the last 10 minutes of play as both teams began to penetrate
the opposing defense. With 8:20 left to play the ball popped out of a six
person cluster beyond Spikes' last two defenders and past the out coming
goalie. Hang 10's Erin Doherty was alone in front of a wide open net and
gracefully tapped it home to put Hang 10 in the lead 1-0. With 30 seconds
left Hang 10's Allison Sisitsky beat one defender and placed a shot into the far
right corner of the goal for the final goal making the score 2-0 Hang-10.
