Championship Game Summary
Night & Day defeated Random 5-1, 3-0
Eight teams qualified for the 1998
Spring Ice Hockey Tournament.
Defending champions, Night & Day
received the number one seed after
an undefeated regular season. Their
potent offense easily handled The
Strays 7-1 and Rusty Blades 10-2 to
reach their third consecutive championship series. The third seed
Random held on to defeat The Nads
5-3 and then eclipsed the Hogs 6-2
to gain their first final series.
Game one was a penalty-ridden
affair, as Night & Day built a 4-0 lead
into the third period on goals by Joe
Flaherty, John Curry, A.J. Wheeler,
and Greg Stamuli. Justin Kemp, in
goal for Random made some quality
saves. Mike Geller, assisted by Eric
DeBello, finally put the puck by Mike
Montessi to score the lone Random
goal with 4:18 left to the third period.
Greg Stamuli answered with his
second goal as Night took the 1-0
lead in the series.
In game two, Mike Montessi shut
out Random as his teammate Scott
Guimont scored in the first period.
John Curry tallied his second goal of
the series in the second period.
Offensive player of the series, Greg
Stamul, scored his third goal of the
series in the third period. Night & Day was elated with their third
consecutive championship.
