Championship Summary
The Hockey Team defeated Rubbernecks 3-0, 3-1
The Rubbemecks finished fifth in the final league standings. In quarterfinal
play they handily defeated Blades of Steel 7-2. A stunning 4-3 over
time victory eliminated the number one seeded, Mother Puckers. The
Rubbernecks were a surprising finalist against The Hockey Team. Hockey,
seeded second, marched into the finals with decisive victories over the
Cameltoes, 6-2, in the quarter-finals, and a 3-0 shut-out of the
Ballbreakers in the other semi-final.
The first game of the best two out of three championship series was all
The Hockey Team. James Podworski, William Benson and H.J. Nassar
provided the goals for the 3-0 win and the lead in the series.
In the second game, the goal keepers, Matt Peles (The Hockey Team) and
George Lamarre (Rubbernecks) were impenetrable through two periods
and two minutes into the third period. Out of a pileup in front of the goal
Dave Delleo scored with an assist by Mike Brown to give the Rubbernecks
their first goal of the series and the lead in a 'must win' game two.
Being behind for the first time energized The Hockey Team. At 10:3 6,
Ryan Brown tied up the scored with assists by James Podworski and
William Benson.
At 8:50, Pat Moore gave The Hockey Team the lead with
an assist by Ernest Faulkner. With less than three minutes left in
regulation, the Rubbernecks got a power play. Not only couldn't they
capitalize, but Pat Moore challenged the goalie behind the net and slipped
one around the pipe to ice the game and win the championship for The
Hockey Team, 3-1.
