Championship Game Summary
Hanson Bros Inc. defeated Wilverines 5-4, 3-1
The Wolverines and Hanson
Bros. Inc. finished in a first
place tie. The head-to-head tie
breaker give the Wolverines the
first place bye into the semifinals. In a quarter-final game
Hanson Bros. Inc., led by Jon
Rischitelli's two goals,
defeated Delta Upsilon, 5-2.
The other semi-finalists were
the Motherpuckers (over
Puckwads, 4-2) and Silver
Bullets (over the Stains, 4-3).
Two first period goals by
Gregg Matthews gave the
Wolverines a 4-1 lead over the
Motherpuckers. It proved to be
enough as they held on for a 4-3
victory. In the other
semi-final, the Silver Bullets
scored three huge third period
goals to tie the score 6-6.
Hanson's Jamie Podworski
netted this fourth goal of the
night with 23 seconds left in
regulation. An empty net goal
made it an 8-6 final for Hanson
Bros. Inc.
The best two out of three
championship series featured
Wolverines and last year
runner-ups, Hanson Bros. Inc.
In game one, both teams exchanged goals and found
themselves deadlocked 3-3 early
in the third period. Hanson's
Will Hawthorne and Jamie
Podworski netted goals within
two minutes of each other to
take the lead. A late surge by
the Wolverines fell short, as
Hanson Bros. Inc. held on to
win, 5-4.
In game two, both teams exchanged first period goals in a
'must' game for the Wolverines.
Goaltenders, Tom Mesick and
Matthew Peles were impenetrable. Late in the second
period, Dennis Connor found
the top of the net for Hanson.
Peles made the lead hold up
while Tom Mesick kept his team
alive, until Tyler Black's empty
net goal sealed the victory and
the championship for Hanson
Bros. inc., 3-1.
