Championship Game Summary
Last Call 60, Sundy 56

The 2013 Co-Rec Holiday Basketball Championship featured teams Sundy vs. Last Call. As game time approached, both teams looked eager to get that championship t-shirt. It was definitely a game to remember. The officials for the game were Adam Carrey and Alex Estrella; with Clint Angus as the scorekeeper.

Last Call won the tip but after a good defensive stand by Sundy, Francesca Miceli scored the first basket of the game with a three-pointer from the right corner. Another three-pointer by Sundy’s captain, Corey Donlan, and a put back from Kevin Cangiano gave them an early 9-0 lead. Last Call’s Trisha Hurley made their first basket with 16 minutes left to go in the half. Sundy responded with a couple more 3-pointers from Miceli and Donlan to give them a 17-8 lead. Both teams traded a couple more baskets and with six minutes left in the game the score was 23-16. Last Call cut the deficit with a couple of key three-pointers by Chris Crocker to make the score 27-22 with two minutes 30 seconds left in the half. The teams continued to trade baskets and at half time the score was 33-24 in favor of Sundy.

To start the second half, both teams showed tough defense which prevented the first basket to not be made until the fourthth minute of the half by Kyle Morrison on a free throw. After a couple of baskets by Sundy, Last call went on a run with some key three-pointers by Crocker and Captain Jimmy Hayes, to tie the game at 37-37. A couple of free throws by Sundy and then a three-pointer by Crocker gives Last Call their first lead of the night at 40-39 with 10 minutes left in the second half. A couple more baskets by Last Call put them up 46-39 with six minutes to go. Sundy then answered with two quick baskets to put them within three.

The two teams then trade baskets and then two baskets by Kate Labarbera and Amy Whited helped Last Call regain a six point lead with a minute left; score 54-48. A couple of missed one and ones, and a couple of missed opportunities, gave Last call a 59-51 lead with 16 seconds left. Sundy’s Donlan then brought the ball down and hit a three-pointer while getting fouled. At the free throw line, Donlan tries to throw it off the backboard to himself but is called for a line violation. Last Call took out the ball but it was quickly stolen by Sundy’s Michael Patti and put in to bring the score to 59-56 with eight seconds left. Last call got a clutch free throw by Crocker to make a two possession game and that was all that she wrote. The final score was 60-56 in favor of Last Call.
