Championship Game Summary
Future Legends of Boyden 57, Sparkers 45

This year’s holiday basketball tournament was an exciting one that pit Future Legends of Boyden against Sparkers. In the first two minutes, Future Legends jumped out to an early 8-2 lead on the backs of Danny Smith and Octavious Hawkins.  After Sparkers hit a couple free throws, Future Legends’ Smith scored the next seven points, including a three-pointer and two free throws, to extend their lead to 15-8 with 9:00 minutes left in the half. An exchange of baskets by both teams kept Future Legends ahead for the next several minutes. It was then that a flurry of baskets by Sparkers’ Daniel Francois, including a three-pointer with 2:30 remaining in the half, tied the game at 22. A free throw by Francois and a basket for each team left the halftime score at 25-24 Sparkers.

To start the 2nd half, both teams traded baskets and Sparkers slowly extended their lead to 33-29. For the next five minutes, Future Legends Smith and Sparkers’ Jeffrey Berleus traded baskets, but a technical foul on Future Legends and a three-pointer by Berleus gave Sparkers a 44-34 lead. Future Legends then went on a 18-0 run, driven by Adrian Dennis and Hawkins, that gave the Future Legends a 52-44 cushion with just 1:30 left in the game. Future Legends were able to hit clutch free throws and play tough defense in the last 90 seconds to solidify the 57-45 win.
