Championship Game Summary
Still In Your Face 53, Ruffnecks 42
The Holiday Basketball tournament featured division champs from the
East and South.
Still In Your Face managed three wins in league play, but suffered a
loss by default using an illegal player. This resulted in a three way tie
which Still In Your Face broke having the least amount of points scored
against them in the three games. The Ruffnecks didn't have to sweat out
their position in the south as their closest contest saw them with a 10
point margin.
The first half was close from the tip—off as the biggest point spread
was three with Still In Your Face ahead 20—17.
That didn't last long as
Bernard Cistrunk converted a three point play to tie the game at 20. The
lead changed seven times in the first half and neither team managed
a point in the last 3:30. The Ruffnecks had a one point edge at half 24—23.
In the first 16 possessions of the second half the lead again changed
seven times. Sean Perkins and Donnie Garbarino hit back to back 3 pointers
to put Still In Your Face ahead 38—33 with under 10 minutes remaining in
the game.
The Ruffnecks had 10 offensive rebounds, grabbing six in the
second half, but only capitalizing on two. They pulled within three points
on four occasions but couldn't quite eliminate the deficit. Still In Your
Face's Ed Hall scored nine of the last 12 points for his team after a quiet
first half performance. This coupled with a technical foul assessed to the
Ruffnecks Tommy Verdell sealed it for Still In Your Face 53—42.
