Championship Game Summary
UMass Legacy 18, Bull Dogs 9

This year’s co-rec final featured two extremely competitive teams in a highly anticipated match-up. UMass Legacy compiled a 4-1 record during the regular season, knocking off Terminators 3625 and scoring with less than 20 seconds to nip Maximus 22-20 en route to the championship game. Bulldogs entered the tournament red hot and, after squeaking out a win against Hot Sauce 12-6, they destroyed A-Team 40-15. The championship began with tension running high and points at a premium. The defenses were the story of the first half as the only score came on a one yard touchdown run by Sara Zakar. After a failed conversion, the score was UMass Legacy 9-0 at the half.

In the second half, both teams dug deep to give the extra effort. Bulldogs scored on a 4th down and goal from the six yard line. Matt Denoble threw to Lauren Paul who made the catch of the tournament by bringing the ball in with one hand. A failed conversion attempt left the score tied at 9. With 2 minutes remaining in the game, UMass Legacy found themselves at the opponents’ 18 yard line. Captain extraordinaire Jason lncorvati dug deep into his playbook. UMass Legacy executed what looked like a promising gain, but the play was brought back by a flag-guarding penalty.

From the 28 yard line and after another good yardage pick up, the play was again brought back with an illegal forward pass. On the next play from the 38 yard line, the Bulldogs committed a costly roughing the passer penalty to give UMass Legacy an automatic first down. With 7 seconds left on the clock, QB Tim Kujawski hit Jackie Longtine with a touchdown strike in the corner of the endzone to seal the win and the championship 18-9.
