Championshiop Game Summary
Force 6, Sweet Carolines 4
Force, the dominating team by far this
year, was undefeated during league
play and outscored opponents 16-3.
Force crushed the Pioneers 7-1 to reach
the championship. Their opponent in the
final, Sweet Carolines, had won their
semifinal game by forfeit.
In the first half,
Force came out smoking! Brian Donovan
scored in the first two minutes.
Bernadette Cash got credit for another
goal five minutes later as her long shot
tipped off a defensive player and past
Sweet Carolines'goalie Rachel Rung. Two
more goals by Jessica Hollenkamp-Nunan
and Jen Champagne gave Force a 4-0
lead. With less than a minute in the half,
Alicia Vanderwater finally put Sweet
Caroilnes on the board. Force held the
4-1 halftime lead.
With a change in goalie and a
never-say-die attitude, Sweet Carolines
made the second half a different game,
even though Force put in two quick goals,
one by Jen Murray and a second tally by
Donovan. Sweet Caroilnes chipped away
at the lead. Misti Spada became an
offensive terror and scored three goals to
bring the score to 6-4. In the end,
however, the early goal deficit and the
running clock were too much to overcome. Force completed a stellar undefeated season and took the championship
6-4.
