Championship Game Summary
The Aggressors 3, Bruisers 2
The 1990—91 Field Hockey Weedkend Tournament was a best of three series
between the Bruisers and the Aggressors, two teams that had faced each other on
numerous occassions in friendly scrimmages throughout the fall.
The first
game started slowly with only one score in the first half from the Aggressors'
Salena Mahr, who beat her defender for the shot on goal. In the second half, the
Bruisers took a 2—1 lead when Kim Lombardi scored from the top of the circle,
and Sharon O'Grady put a powerful shot into the back of the net after a quick
counter attack. Five minutes later Jessica Meyers tied the game when she
scored after a scramble for the ball in front of the net. It looked as though
the game was heading for overtime, when Beth Pollard and Nancy DeLuca both
scored in the last minute of play to give the Aggressors the win.
The Aggressors opened up the scoring in the second game off a goal from
Jessica Meyers. Again, only one goal was scored in the first half. Amy
MacDonald put the Bruisers on the scoreboard two minutes inq' the second half
by capitalizing on a deflected shot, which she redirected into the goal. The
Aggressors's Jessica Meyers scored her third goal of the day to put her team
up 2—1. The Bruisers continued to fight back and tied the game on a goal by
Brenda Gibson, which had resulted from another quick counter attack. Once again,
it looked as if Overtime was inevitable, when Beth Pollard scored another last
minute goal off a cross from the right flank to give the Aggressors the win and
the championship.
