Championship Game Summary
Can Ya Dig It defeated JV All-Stars 30-24, 30-11

The Co-Rec volleyball championship between the JV All-Stars and Can Ya Dig It was hotly contested and intense. In the end, Can Ya Dig It emerged victorious, feeding off of Ryan Imbriaco’s hits and capitalizing off of the many mistakes made by the JV All-Stars.

The first game was close. The JV All-Stars, playing with a man advantage, jumped out to an early lead behind the hits of Conor Foley and solid blocks by all players. Up 9-5 in the early going, the JV All-Stars appeared to be in the driver’s seat. They appeared comfortable in playing defensively, continuously returning the ball and forcing Can Ya Dig It to make mistakes.  As back and forth play continued, the All-Stars maintained their lead, even stretching it, to 21-15.

However, up six, and with only nine points left to win, the wheels fell off for the JV All-Stars. Ryan Imbriaco’s hits began finding their mark, and after gaining serve, Can Ya Dig It began to claw their way back into the game. With the game tied at 24, and Nicole Boisvert’s serves continuously finding holes in the JV All-Stars return, things went from bad to worse for the All-Stars. Plagued by an inability to return the ball, they dropped the next six points and Can Ya Dig It won the first game in thrilling come-from-behind style.

The beginning of the second game found both teams right where they had left off. Imbraico appeared unstoppable; getting kills in five of his team’s first seven points, and Can Ya Dig It jumped out to 7-2 lead. Here, the JV All-Stars appeared to regain their composure and began to close the gap to 7-6, again led by Conor Foley. This, however, was the most spirited play the All-Stars would be able to muster for the rest of the game. Can Ya Dig It regained service and suddenly the All-Stars could not return the ball back over the net. Fourteen times out of the next twenty points found the All-Stars hitting the ball back into their own net or out of play. When they were finally able to return service, it was too little too late and Can Ya Dig It put the game away with a final spike from Imbriaco, winning 30-11.
