Championship Game Summary
Burgers n' Fries 3, Happy Ending 2

The co-rec soccer season came to its conclusion as Burgers n’ Fries squared off with Happy Ending. Burgers n’ Fries was undefeated at 5-0 in league play, while Happy Ending finished 4-1 during the season. In the 1st half of the final, the teams seemed to be evenly matched. Happy Ending got the scoring started when Rob Wenham capitalized on a penalty kick off a handling penalty in the box. Burgers n’ Fries quickly tied things up as Suzie Jozkowski connected on a long boot from outside the goalie box that sailed past goalkeeper E.J. Ledoux’s outstretched arms. As the 1st half ticked down, Steven Alves notched one for Burgers n’ Fries on the second penalty kick of the day. With 3 ½ minutes to go in the half, thunder, lightning and heavy rains forced suspension of play. Thirty minutes later, the teams regrouped and the 1st half ended with Burgers n’ Fries holding a 2-1 lead. In the 2nd half, Burgers n’ Fries extended their lead when Wilson Boone took a nice pass from Katie Knapp and found the back of the net to give his team the 3-1 advantage. Happy Ending’s John Frazier did his part to keep his team in the game, as his goal halfway through the period cut Burgers n’ Fries lead to 3-2. Needing to stop the Burgers n’ Fries offense, Happy Ending goalie E.J. Ledoux came up with big save after big save to keep his team alive. Happy Ending’s attempt to score on goalkeeper Chris Powers proved unsuccessful as Powers and the rest of the defense held strong for the 3-2 win to cap off a perfect season.
