Championship Game Summary
Tu Mama 3, Booze Bags 2

The co-rec soccer championship featured Tu Mama and Booze Bags. Tu Mama advanced to the final with five wins in the playoffs, including a 2-0 win over a tough Las Cebollitas team. Booze Bags enjoyed a first round bye in the playoffs. Booze Bags advanced to the championship with four playoff wins, including a 1-0 heartstopper over Regulators. In the final, each team had opportunities to score early on in the game. Booze Bags goalkeeper Angela Fix came up big in the flurry of shots. Tu Mama’s Stephen Bradley had perhaps the best opportunity to score, but his boot rang off the right post.

Five minutes later, Tu Mama’s Agya Frimpong gave his team a 1-0 lead off a beautiful set-up from teammate Teresa Moniz. Booze Bags wasted little time in trying to tie the game. Ben Bradford had his shot saved by keeper Mike Levine and minutes later Eric Schwarz’s shot glanced off the left post, nearly knotting the score. Tu Mama’s Bradley extended the lead to 2-0 off a direct kick from just outside the penalty area, burying the shot past a leaping Fix.

In the second half, Tu Mama continued their offensive threats and nearly made it 3-0 off a turnover, but the shot went just wide. That seemed to wake up Booze Bags, as just minutes after the turnover, Kelly Auperin ripped a shot into the top left corner, cutting Tu Mama’s lead to 2-1. With five minutes to go in the game, Tu Mama extended their lead to 3-1 as Jeff Christie made a beautiful pass to Dmitri Ivanov who, after a nifty deke, buried the shot past keeper Fix. As time began to work against Booze Bags, they once again found their offense. Captain Bradford set up Schwarz to cut the defecit to only one. Booze Bags nearly tied the game with just 30 seconds to go, but Tu Mama’s Levin came up with the save and pushed the shot just wide. That was as close as Booze Bags would get. Tu Mama held off any further offensive threats to capture the championship 3-2.
