Championship Game Summary
FSU 2, Blackouts 2 (Penalty Kicks)

Forty one teams qualified for the co-rec soccer playoffs. FSU and perennial soccer buzz-abouts Black Outs each erased five teams during the grueling two weeks of playoffs to earn the opportunity to meet in the championship. In the first half of the final, FSU’s John Whitehill notched the only goal, and FSU keeper Michael Chan contributed to his team's success by deflecting the intermittent Black Outs scoring chances. FSU led at the half 1-0. Black Outs got a goal of their own from Steve Howard early in the second half to make the score 1-1. As in the first half, both teams played excellent defense. Neither team scored in the remaining minutes of regulation and during the two five minute overtimes. In penalty kicks, Black Outs notched the first goal but FSU came right back with a matching score. Pace for pace the two teams were until the Black Outs’ keeper Michael Pierro missed his kick. Kristin Screen scored FSU’s 4th as they finished the series of penalty kicks in successful style and came away with a dramatic championship win via penalty kicks.
