Championship Game Summary
Victory 8, Mainstream 2
The Co-Rec Soccer Championship saw Victory cruise to a 8-2 win against
Mainstream. Victory, a team comprised of mostly Cape Verdian players, dominated all
aspects of the contest. The field conditions were excellent and plenty of fans came out to
support their respective clubs as the temperature touched 85 degrees. Both teams entered
the game on high spirits after pulling out semi-final thrillers. Unfortunately for
Mainstream that is were the similarities ended.
Victory played like a team that had been together for years, controlling time of
ball possession and attacking the Mainstream net from all angles. In the fourth minute
Salvia Barron took a through ball from Verissimo Galvao and sent a right footed blast
into the net. Five minutes later Dara Glynn, scored on a well placed cross from Carlos
Almeida. Jose Araujo then hit a blast that a Mainstream defender knocked in for an own
goal in the 10th minute. The Victory scoring could have continued if not for the
courageous effort from Mainstream keeper Peter Spiegel.
The second half saw more of the same domination as Victory scored two goals
within the first five minutes. Mainstream tried to answer back as Adam Frye converted a
penalty kick in the 8th minute. However, any chances of a Mainstream comeback
was nullified by the play-making of Galvao and Barron and the scoring of Glynn, who
finished with a hat-trick and was named game MVP.
