Co-Rec Soccer Spring 1995

Screaming Iguanas

Championship Game Summary
Screaming Iguanas 4, Fuzzy Navels 2

Seniors Kerri Murphy and Lyle Core have co-captained a dynasty. The Screaming Iguanas completed their third campaign with a third consecutive Co-Rec Soccer Title, 4-2, over a tenacious Fuzzy Navels squad.

Tough defensive play by both teams controlled the first 8 minutes of play. Jon Paul Lazcano capitalized on a slide tackle call deep in Navels' territory, to put the Iguanas up 1-0. The half ended without another score but not without several near misses, including a cannon off the crossbar for the Navels. At the 4 minute mark, Dan Jacob launched a long range shot and gave the Iguanas a 2 goal lead.

Scott Tarka put the Navels back in the game with his first tally. Both defenses clamped down until Stephen Powers scored his own long range goal to make the lead 3-1. With 3 minutes left, Liz Carrigan's goal cut the lead to 3-2. J. P. Lazcano broke up the middle off the kickoff and looped a shot over the keeper to ice the game and win an unprecedented third championship. Congratulations to all on a well played, exciting final game.
