Championship Summary
Seconds 12, On a Mission 8

Perennial powerhouse Seconds returned to their 3rd straight final to face formidable opponent On a Mission. These two teams met during the regular season with On a Mission winning by a run. Would history be on their side? On a Mission’s Jon Tortorella started things off when he doubled to deep left field. Kevin Flights blast to center field and a possible 3rd out was lost in the lights, allowing two runs to score. After the third out, Seconds wasted no time in putting runs on the board, as four of their first five batters reached base, including back-toback doubles by Tom Feeley and Dan Weaver. Michelle Duclos singled to put runners on and 3rd and bring Joe Zapasnik to the plate.

Zapasnik drilled an apparent hit toward the outfield, but Justin Zerneri, shortstop for On a Mission, made a spectacular leaping catch, robbing Zapasnik of a hit. Seconds added two more runs to make the score 4-2 at the end of the 1st inning. In the top of the 2nd with On a Mission threatening, Weaver turned a great double play to end the inning. In the bottom of the 2nd, Feeley continued his strong play by doubling to drive in Brad Blanchette, followed by a Weaver sacrifice fly to make the score 6-2.

On a Mission sparkled in the 4th with a five-run inning. Seconds, however, was undaunted, stringing together five straight hits, including singles by Weaver, Duclos and Zapasnik. Due to a combination of some tough plays in the infield and a 2-run blast by Blanchette, Seconds added five runs in their half of the 4th to grab the lead at 12-8. In their last at-bat, On a Mission’s Sean Lane singled and was advanced to 2nd on a fielder’s choice. Joe Harrison hit a double to left-center to score Lane. Caitlin Foley then added a hit that couldn’t score Harrison. Zerneri’s fly out ended the game and Seconds walked away with the “threepeat.’
