Championship Game Summary
Students of the Game 47, Cookies for Days 40

The 2013 Intramural Men’s Championship game was a battle of the unbeatens when The Students of the Game (7-0) took on Cookies for Days (8-0). One of these teams would be crowned as champions, while the other team’s dreams of a perfect season would end.

Things were started quickly by an opening play and-one from Ricky Silva of Cookies for Days. It was quickly answered by a quick bucket by Benjamin Mohr of Students of the Game. This back and forth pace was kept for the first few minutes until Cookies for Days put a nice run together. A three-pointer and brilliant low post fade away by Andrew Hosch followed by a three-pointer by Matt Fung gave Cookies for Days a 17-10 lead with five minutes to go in the half. Just when it seemed like Cookies for Days was running away with the lead, Students of the Game responded with a 13-0 run. This was sparked by the play of Luc Audate, who scored 7 of the 13 points.

With Students of the Game up 23-17, Cookies for Days got a desperately needed three-pointer by Matt Fung to end an eight minute scoring drought. Yet a 6-0 run by Students of the Game caused another setback for the comeback. Benjamin Mohr got an and-one from a beautiful dish by Khetsun Lokyitsung to make it 29-20. Ricky Silva began to lead a comeback scoring 8 points in 4 minutes. Matt Fung supported his teammate with a huge three-pointer with one minute left which cut the lead to four. With no choice left but to foul, Cookies for Days sent them to the free throw line, hoping they could capitalize off some misses. However, Students of the Game made their free throws and were able to hold on for the 2013 Men’s Intramural Basketball Championship!

Students of the Game moved on to the All-Tournament Championship, where they handedly beat Phi Kappa Alpha to ensure their spot at the top.
