Championship Game Summary
Tune Squad 28, Ballas 19

The co-rec championship featured Ballas versus Tune Squad, both undefeated in their respective leagues and with two playoff victories. Scoring was minimal for both teams with only a 3-2 score after six and half minutes. Paige Kelley scored the three points for Tune Squad while Rachael Doyle added the bucket for Ballas. Doyle & Christy MacDonald provided excellent defense in the paint for Ballas, snatching rebounds and forcing hard shots for Tune Squad’s Melissa ten Napel & Michella Marino. The defenses continued to dominate and the score remained 11-7 at the half.

In the 2nd half, ten Napel and Kelley showed their muscle in the paint by preventing easy Ballas scoring and second chances at the basket. After the Ballas got a quick basket by MacDonald to make it a two-point game, Tune Squadwent on a 14-0 run, including nine points from Nick Privitera, to open up the score to 25-9 with nine minutes to go. Tune Squad never looked back, despite not scoring again until 1:20 left in the game and allowing Ballas to climb to within six points at 25-19.  In the end, defense prevailed for Tune Squad as they captured the championship with a 28-19 final score. Ballas’ MacDonald lead all scorers with 19 points. With balanced scoring, Tune Squad’s Privitera lead the way with 9 points and Kelley, Marino, and Liz Rosseel chipped in with key baskets.
