Championship Game Summary The men's final featured Squad versus Ham & Eggs. Squad was the defending champion and Ham & Eggs, made up of many of the players from Sons of Bird who lost to Squad in the final last year, made this game essentially a rematch. Ham & Eggs broke to an early 6-2 lead behind two 3's from Thomas Suski. Squad countered with a basket underneath by Sean Young. Squad started to dominate the offensive glass, getting put-back after put-back from Mike Douglas and Young. Squad's Dominique Stewart added two 3's to give Squad the 25-18 lead at the half. In the 2nd half, Squad's relentless defense continued to frustrate Ham & Eggs shooters. In the second half, Squad extended their lead to 29-18 as they continued to score in the paint. At the other end, few shots fell for Ham & Eggs. With the score now 34-20, Squad's Tim Day received a technical foul which game Ham & Eggs an automatic two points. Ham & Eggs then went on a 10-0 run behind three 3-pointers from Dan McCoy and Edward Heaton to make the score 34-30. After a Squad timeout, Squad scored two quick baskets to push their cushion to 38-30. Ham & Eggs could only foul to try to get back in the game. At the charity striple, Squad missed 5 out of 6 free throws and gave up three points to allow Ham & Eggs to pull within five points. But it was too little, too late. Squad held off Ham & Eggs 46-40 to secure back-to-back championships. |
