Championship Game Summary
Hoop Screams 61, Delta Stu 35
Four teams entered the 1999
Co-rec baskethall playoffs. Hoop
Screams, the perennial defending
champions, went undefeated and
crushed opponents in league play.
They won by forfeit over Frannie's
Angels to reach the playoff final.
Delta Stu (JLA) was also impressive
during league play and won by forfeit
over Omelet with Toppings to advance to the championship.
For the
first 10 minutes of the final, the teams traded baskets. After Delta Stu called
a timeout, Hoop Screams took
charge with Karen LaFrenier scoring a
quick 4 of her 21 points. Teammate
Raphael Cerrato hit back-to-back
three pointers and David Wright
nailed a trey of his own. Elizabeth
Hnitecki's impressive 10 points
helped Delta Stu stay close to Hoop
Screams in the first half. Hoop
Screams led at the half 27-22.
In the second half, Screams
center/forward Sharon Bay proved
too much for Delta Stu. Bay garnered
many offensive and defensive rebounds and amassed 21 points. Even
though Delta Stu fell significantly
behind in the second half, they
continued to play with hustle and
heart behind Steve Chen's arc-busters
and Marissa Legares' all-around good
play. With the final score at 61-35,
Hoop Screams captured the 3-peat.
