Hoop Screems 59, Hey D.P. 28

Eight teams participated in the Co-rec playoff tournament. Last year’s powerhouse and champion, Hoop Screams, had another fine year going undefeated during league games and crushing teams during the playoffs 82-26 over Minutes and 41-34 over Lantern on the Court to advance to the final. Hey D.P. was also impressive during the regular season and lost its only game to Hoop Screams, 36-23.

Hoop Screams began with strong defense and forced Hey DP to commit turnovers. Hoop Screams’ Amy Robertson and Kathryn Gleason led their charges with fastbreak baskets. Hey D.P. broke a 6-0 score with a five-foot jumper by Stacy Hare. Hoop Screams ran off six straight points before Hey D.P. Amy Jones scored.

Tough defense by Jim Strub and Chris Chamides and offensive heroics from Gleason and Shelly Fowler gave Hoop Screams a 30-8 halftime lead. In the second half Hey D.P. cut down its turnovers and scored 20 second half points to Hoop Screams 29, but the first half thrashing was too much to overcome. Hoop Screams powered out a 59-28 victory.
