Meet the Advisors


Bethany Welch

Bethany is a sophomore Public health major who joined campus rec in December of 2013. She fell in love with fitness and working out during high school after joining her local gym and playing hockey, lacrosse, and field hockey. Certified in Spinning and Cardio Sport, Bethany also teaches boot camp and is a nutrition advisor. She plans on receiving more certifications in the future as well. Bethany strives to give her participants a fun and challenging workout that will leave them feeling accomplished. When Bethany is not at the gym, you can find her at the rink playing for the UMass women’s ice hockey team.

Chastity Beach

Chastity Beach is a Public Health major. Chastity got into fitness and discovered her love for running when she participated in cross country and track in high school. She began taking Spinning® classes in college and loved Spinning® so much that she decided to get certified to teach. Chastity makes her classes interesting with great music and fun themes for every ride.

Haley Harzynski

Haley Harzynski is a Nutrition major who plans to continue her nutrition study in graduate school. She specializes in vegetarian/vegan diets and holds a certificate in plant-based nutrition through the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies and eCornell. Haley's passion is to educate others about the importance of whole-foods in our diet and how it affects the human body. Her ultimate goal is to teach and encourage people to make healthier choices. Through her passion about health and wellness she has discovered a love for cooking and exercising. Hiking, biking and swimming across Puffers Pond are ways she loves to stay fit through the year. In the future, Haley wants to establish a holistic practice that integrates the mind, body and spirit through nutrition, exercise, and wellness.

Jenn Konjoian

From Andover, MA, Jenn is a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor. Jenn first became interested in nutrition when she experienced fatigue during field hockey games. She worked with a nutritionist to advise her on what to eat to sustain energy. Since then, Jenn has been eager to learn more and share her knowledge with others.

Kelsey Baumgarten

Kelsey is a junior Nutrition major who plans to become a registered dietitian after graduating from UMass. Also a Zumba® instructor, Kelsey believes exercise and diet are important to a healthy and happy life. Her interest in nutrition started at a young age when she became a vegetarian and began altering recipes to make them meat-free. She loves cooking and baking healthy foods and serving them to others to show that healthy eating can be delicious. With so many misconceptions about nutrition and weight in today’s society, it has become Kelsey’s passion to share her knowledge of health and well-being and encourage people to respect their bodies and feel good on the inside, instead of focusing solely on appearance.

Lauren Smith

Lauren is a Nutrition major with plans to become a registered dietitian. She is very interested in community nutrition and enjoys working with the public. From the small town of Barre, Lauren loves to spend time outside running, biking and swimming. She also loves to cook and is always curious to try new foods. Lauren first became interested in nutrition after traveling around the country and noticing different diets and lifestyles. Lauren believes that proper diet and exercise have a very positive impact on your health, mood, and overall life. Lauren hopes to change the lives of others by helping them achieve their goals and by finding the correct foods to fit their lifestyle.

Megan Beck

Megan is a junior Nutrition major who plans to become a registered dietician after her graduation in 2015. Megan first became interested in nutrition in high school when she watched the documentary Forks Over Knives and realized that many of the major diseases plaguing Americans like diabetes and cardiovascular disease can be prevented by eating right. She eventually wants to go into holistic medicine and council people on how to manage their diseases with proper nutrition. She also plans to work with children and the community to show how important it is to have a healthy diet from a young age. Megan loves to cook and experiment with new recipes. She wants to show people that food can be healthy and still taste great!
