Fitness Center Policies
Please recognize that following fitness etiquette is not only safe, it’s polite…
for you and other recreation participants.
Attire
-
Lower body wear: Participants are required to wear shorts, sweatpants, windpants. Pants, such as jeans or pants with belt loops, and non-lifting belts are not permitted because these can cause excessive wear on the upholstery.
-
Upper body wear is required: T-shirts, sweatshirts and tanktops are permitted.
Footwear: Athletic shoes must be worn at all times. Dress shoes, open-toed shoes, flip-flops, boots, sandals or deck shoes are not permitted.
At the Door
-
Proper ID (UCard or guest pass) with recreation membership is required to use all recreation facilities.
-
Food, drink [only water bottles are permitted], gum, tobacco and toothpicks are not permitted in recreation areas.
-
Due to space constraints, bags, books and clothing not worn while using the facilities and other personal belongings are to be stored on shelves or in ‘cubbies’ or baskets as available at the facilities. Participants are encouraged to use University issued lockers during the semester.
-
Athletics & Campus Recreation staff are not responsible for lost or stolen IDs and other personal belongings.
-
Facilities have a maximum user occupancy; during peak hours you might have to wait outside for a bit.
Once Inside – And Here’s the Good Part
-
Use equipment properly.
-
Clean up after yourself. That is, bring a towel and wipe down equipment after use.
-
Let others use equipment while you’re resting.
-
Have fun!
In Free Weight & Selectorized Areas
-
All equipment must remain inside the facilities and all lifting must occur inside the facilities.
-
Return dumbbells to the rack in proper order. Dumbbells should not be dropped or slammed to the floor or left on the floor.
-
Bars and weights should be kept off pads & seats to prevent tearing. As well, feet should be kept off seats & pads.
-
Plates are to be moved from racks to bars only. Plates and bars should not be left on the floor or leaning against benches.
-
Strip bars after use and return plates to the proper locations/number slots.
-
Secure collars on barbells. Loose plates can slide off, bounce on the floor and hurt someone.
-
Platforms are the only areas where weights can be dropped to the floor. Rubber-coated plates or ‘bumper’ plates are to be used on platforms.
In Cardio Areas
-
Follow safe workout procedures – start with a warm up and end with a cool down.
-
If others are waiting to use equipment, observe the 30-minute workout limit.
-
Walkmans, ipods, etc. with ear pieces are permitted by users of cardio equipment.
Failure to comply with staff instructions and proper facility use may result in removal from facility and/or loss of recreation privileges
