"Writing Butterfield" represents a cooperative venture undertaken by Housing Services, Commonwealth College, Residential Academic Programs, the First-Year Writing Program, and the Department of English to provide an array of exciting offerings to students interested in writing and the written word. Along with special courses in creative as well as expository writing, there will be weekly writing workshops, readings by visiting writers, open mic nights, films, and performances.
Housed in Butterfield Residence Hall, one of the oldest and proudest residential buildings on the University campus, "Writing Butterfield" brings together first-year students from four residential programs -- English TAP, an invitational program for talented pre-English majors; Butterfield RAP, a program of shared courses open to all first-year students interested in living in Central; the Commonwealth College Creativity learning community, for students of any major interested in writing and literature; and the Commonwealth College Impact learning community, designed for students with a special interest in community service.
